DAY 7
NF 1 is caused by a mutation on the NF 1 gene on the 17th chromosome. It is a large gene, which codes for the protein neurofibromin. Neurofibromin is one of the proteins responsible for controlling cell growth and proliferation. In patients with NF, neurofibromin doesn’t work properly to stop the proliferation of cells. This leads to uncontrolled cell growth, which forms tumors on neurons.
